Art and Culture Trail
The starting point of the "Bankaleweg" (Bench Trail) is the forecourt of the Bad Bleiberg town hall.
The historically designed rest area, featuring mine carts as benches and a stone fountain, marks the beginning of the trail.
Artist's Bench "Hans Wulz"
Heading west, you'll find the colorful artist's bench dedicated to the local painter, singer, and poet Hans Wulz. He captured the Bleiberg Valley in a unique way through his books, drawings, and self-composed songs.
Artist's Bench "Ilona Wulz"
At the Sonnenmarktl (Sun Market), you'll find the artist's bench in honor of Ilona Wulz, painted in various shades of blue. The design incorporates elements of her well-known "Tscherfel" series of encaustic paintings. Ilona Wulz was also the creator of the traditional Bleiberg costume.
Artists' Bench "Rupert Wenzel"
Along the promenade, opposite the Spar supermarket, another artists' bench commemorates the painter Rupert Wenzel. Its design is based on his well-known "head-foot" motifs. The Bleiberg native is known far beyond the region for his numerous exhibitions.
Musicians' Square
Near the tourist information office is the "Musicians' Square." It honors the musical traditions of the high valley and is dedicated to the choirs and the Bad Bleiberg brass band.
The Bench Trail has created a lasting memorial to local artists. It offers visitors and residents alike an insight into the diverse cultural and artistic scene of Bad Bleiberg.
The grand opening of the Bench Trail will take place in June 2026. All residents of Bleiberg and all art and culture enthusiasts are cordially invited.
Poets' Square
The art and culture trail culminates in the "Poets' Square," dedicated to local poets. The artfully crafted bench, made from carved books, bears the names of important figures in regional literature.
This unique art and culture trail, featuring artistically designed meeting places, was created on the initiative of the Bad Bleiberg Tourism Association under the leadership of Monika Hausmann-Scheidenberger. The project was implemented by the company Captura – Martin Eggarter and supported by the State of Carinthia and the Villach Region.
